  • A Spring in Paris

It is spring in Paris. In my bedroom with open windows, I can hear the birds singing. I’m lying on the flowered, quilted bedcover, and I dream…of the striped, romantic wallpaper on the walls of my bedroom, my vintage sofa covered with tiger eye fabric, and my little kitchen with the tiny table covered with a gingham tablecloth and the beautiful Parisian cement tiles on the floor. I can hear the bells of the church of Montmartre just at the end of the street. I can see the roofs of Paris, and even from very far away, I can admire the Eiffel Tower and some other beloved monuments. Wearing my green dress with butterflies, I dream about a spring in Paris…

  • Arboretum

England’s countryside, ancient woodlands, and protected wildlife, Arboretum is an enchanting collection of designs. Fusing contemporary, stylized elements with archival influences, this collection recaptures the glory of the country’s aesthetic. Seasonal tones run throughout, combining classic English hues with a modern twist. Fresh, uplifting leaf greens and deep indigo blues reach through to autumnal shades such as russet and plum in a warm, welcoming palette. A recipe for positivity and the opportunity to reconnect with nature, Arboretum reminds us of the restorative powers the countryside provides.

  • BioGeo Energy

I am so happy to announce BioGeo Energy, the 4th collection of my drawings made into fabric for FreeSpirit Fabrics and the talented quilters they serve. Like Bio Geo 1, 2, and 3, this collection continues to celebrate the rhythms of nature made visible through line, shape, pattern, and color. I’ve enhanced the excitement of the BioGeo series that has been made up of my freehand curved drawings by adding some of the straight-line patterns from my hand-drawn (with a ruler) “Inner Energy” series. I love the new electrifying vibrations they add to the BioGeo rhythms! I hope you do, too!

  • Brushstrokes

My newest collection showcases the various techniques I use when creating with watercolors and inks. From finely pointed watercolor brushes that allow a level of detail akin to working with a fine-tipped ink pen to sweeping lush sable brushes that leave a broad pool of color behind, Brushstrokes celebrates the depth and breadth of my painting style. I aim to achieve that beautiful balance between saturated color, watery washes and controlled brushwork. From pattern to pattern, I harness the often-mysterious fluidity of painting with water, honoring both loose, flowing designs and accentuating delicate, intricate details.

  • Christmas Spirit

Christmas is a magical time that inspires me in many ways. From the peaceful and serene atmosphere of snow falling outside to the sight of snow-covered evergreen trees in the winter forests. The forests blanketed in snow evoke a sense of wonder and tranquility that fills my heart with joy, and the sound of crunching snow beneath my boots makes me feel at peace. The cozy smell of Christmas cookies baking in the oven is yet another source of inspiration. The sweet and spicy aroma fills the house and brings back memories of childhood holiday traditions. It warms my heart and makes me feel grateful for the simple pleasures in life, adding to the magic of the holiday season. Overall, Christmas is a time of giving, kindness, and joy that fills me with inspiration and hope. From the twinkling lights to the carolers singing in the festive atmosphere, it reminds me that even in the darkest of times, there is light and love to be found.

  • Dance of Dreams

danced on the dance floor like a super athlete. As a world-class runner, I danced around the track for miles, and it was a beautiful sight to behold. Running was a powerful, graceful form of dancing. I am a dancer, and I am a dreamer! I have danced and dreamed my whole life away, which has been more fun than anyone should have, but I have done it well, my friends! When I went blind at fifteen, I danced through the adversity and darkness until I found the light. I walked, jogged, ran, and danced toward that bright light. When you create, you dance around thoughts, images, and dreams. My grandmother once told me she saw a quilt in the sky. I believe now she was dancing on the puffy white clouds in heaven! Dance is the hidden language of the soul. Don’t let people discourage you; just dance the bad vibes off! Dance rhymes with romance. Love is why we are here! Go quilters!

  • Exotic Garden Palace

A friend once remarked sentiments to me that I’ve never forgotten as it surprised me at the time. He said, “I go to India regularly for peace and tranquility”. He, Steve Rigg, was an elderly English doctor who carried himself with a distinguished and yet calm casual air. He shared his stories, cooking, and music experiences from times spent in India. I discovered firsthand what he meant when I too ventured solo to India in 1998. I traveled to Rajasthan endeavoring to have my block-printed and painted fabric designs reproduced onto rolls of fabric. This has been a dream of mine since a young teenager. With just a backpack, I rolled up in a rickshaw to the gates of the Rajmahal Palace in Jaipur. I could only afford to stay one night. I was escorted to my breathtakingly beautiful room. With marble floors, soaring ceilings, carved timber bed furniture and side tables, white bedlinen, and parchment paper notepads, the ambiance was special. Superb quality, including gorgeous woven reed and bamboo blinds that draped the enormous timber framed glass windows looking out to a carved screen courtyard and beyond to expansive formal gardens. From my limited travel clothes, I dressed for dinner in a smoky blue and turquoise sarong I had brought from home. I wore the turquoise silk blouse which I had made the previous day in Udaipur. On my feet, I wore brown flat sandals crisscrossed high above my ankles. Filled with wonder and delight, I strolled through the expansive intricate carved wood passageways to the marble opulent dining room. I was placed at a candlelit table for two, white linen, high ceilings, and soft lighting. I ate my smooth curry while listening to the mystical sounds of a harp being played by three men sitting cross-legged on the marble floor. I felt the “Essence of India”. The feelings evoked from the journey, left my soul enchanted and my stay so memorable. I felt feverishly inspired to want to paint and design. A seed was planted in my mind and a wish to one day have a collection on rolls of fabric, inspired by an Indian palace.

  • Full Moon Forest II

18 years ago, I sat down to design my very first fabric collection. I didn't know where that exercise would lead me or that it would completely change my life forever. I poured everything I had into those drawings without a contract, a guarantee, or a company that wanted to produce what I came up with. That first collection was something of a prayer, a meditation, a hope for a future I didn't have the experience to conceive of yet. That collection was called Full Moon Forest, and it was the first step on a path that has consumed my every waking moment since. When I realized that I was again sitting down to design a fabric collection but now for the 50th time, I felt appreciation wash over me. With this new collection, I want to honor where I began and what I have gained along the way. So much has changed since that first collection and in some ways so much is still the same. Full Moon Forrest II is the culmination of the things I have learned along the way and the ways I have evolved, improved, and achieved clarity over the years of doing a job that I love so much. In this new collection, I have revisited each of the original prints and reimagined them with all of the things I have learned. I didn't want to ignore the original completely, so I included three original prints as "ghost" versions printed in white on white. These prints are designed to act as a memory, a backdrop, the very foundations that the new prints were built upon. This is a thank you letter for the last 18 years, to the manufacturers, retailers, and quilters that have supported me along the way. Full Moon Forest II is a great bookend to my first 50 collections and an awesome springboard for the next 50.

  • Golden Touch

My third collection for FreeSpirit Fabrics, Golden Touch, is inspired by an up-close look at nature. I tried to capture in my designs the meditative repetition and diverse variation that is found in the natural world. My hope is that Golden Touch makes you feel like you are looking under a microscope and discovering patterns of spirals, spheres, waves, and meanders. The colors in the Golden Touch collection are evocative of metal elements and organic materials. This collection is unique because I combined three different artistic techniques and mediums to create it. The fourteen designs are made from my original monotypes, hand-painted watercolors, and monotype collages. Monotypes are a one-of-a-kind printmaking practice. Monotypes are created by painting directly onto a plate and running the plate through a printing press. In my monotypes, I utilize the unique and unexpected textures of both natural and man-made objects such as vegetable wrappers, bubble wraps, leaves, or dried flowers in my work. I enjoy this printmaking process because it involves a sense of spontaneity and it always includes an element of surprise. The monotype collages were created by cutting up and combining various different monotypes. I can’t wait to see how you use Golden Touch in your next project and I encourage you to take a peek through the looking glass to see what you discover.

  • Grace

To me, Grace means the space to give self-love and self-care as I navigate a new life. This journey of Grace started in January 2022 with the word being part of my intentions for the year, going inward to take care of myself as a woman, artist, mom, leader, and friend. I needed to go to the next step of healing and self-discovery to find my new path. Part of this self-discovery was taking the risk to say 'yes' to #thehundreddayproject. This project took me on a discovery of what I have already done (I printed blocks I have already carved), tapping into what I know -color and discovering I am good at what I do. As the weeks continued and my confidence grew, ideas filled my head and I started carving new blocks. A series of blocks emerged and at the end, I kept carving and printing until Grace was born. This was the start of the collection and it grew to this rich, luscious, combination of colors and layers of designs. Grace was my journey to a new sense of self-worth and confidence, it continues to fuel my intentions and my life. We all need a little Grace in our lives!

  • L'Heure Bleue

Beautiful blues! From intense deep indigo to the lightest tints of ice blue to vast cerulean skies and from the warm azure water lapping the Mediterranean coastline to moody grey-blue, stormy oceans, there is a hue of blue for every mood. I adore this omnipresent colour that envelopes our world day and night. Dusk is my favourite time of day — the twilight zone when the sky’s colours shift after the sun’s setting, and before night closes in. Time is suspended for a little while as colours deepen from a pale tint to petrol blue, before turning into an expanse of deep blue velvet sprinkled with stars. In French, it is known as “L’heure bleue.” This resonates with me so I chose it as the name of my 2024 FreeSpirit fabric collection inspired by the colour blue.

  • Mythical

The “Mythical” collection is a fantastical glimpse into a fierce group of goddesses from ancient Greek folklore. They ruled over much of the ancient world and had the ability to transform into animal form. “Fabled Forest” is their domain, and it exists somewhere on the horizon where the moon and the meadows collide in a stylized realm, mystical animals roam and the trees are made of stars. In the pattern “Powerhouse,” shimmering sunbursts and moon rays explode with zigzags and shockwaves to demonstrate the fierce power and protection of Athena and Artemis. If you look carefully along the riverbanks, the goddess “Iris” can be found among the exotic flowers that bear her name. Animals are scattered within the collection. Among the clouds and stars, in a peach-colored sky, a “Nightingale” sings and deer scatter across a “Wild Meadow” of fluttering grass. In “Owl See You,” an owl quietly sees all and blends beautifully with the other patterns. Multi-colored squares and half-moons evoke a multi-dimensional universe in “Dawn.” Punched-out moon phases feel like confetti in “It’s A Phase.” Linear lines lend movement in “Fiddlehead,” and blooms and bullseyes give off good vibes in “Bloom.”
