Kate Basti

I hoarded fabrics long before I ever bought a sewing machine. The colors, the patterns, and the very tactile feel of the fabrics fascinated me. In 2010, after two years of collecting fabric, I taught myself to sew a basic pillow cover. In 2013, I created my very first quilt, a simple patchwork, as a gift for my daughter’s second birthday. I found myself hooked. Quilting quickly became much more than a hobby. It’s a passion that I pour myself into every day. It is a creative outlet, a practical skill, and, perhaps most importantly, a form of self-expression. These days, I find myself drawn to traditional quilt patterns with modern twists, loads of fun foundation paper piecing designs, and, as always, fabrics in beautifully saturated colors.
