  • Bloomology

Hampstead Heath and the streets surrounding it have green leaves and flowers in abundance, spilling into the streets. They relentlessly grow towards the London sky with bricks and mortar as a backdrop. I walk the streets of the wild heath every day through rain and sunshine, snow and hail, and quietly observe the growing, budding, sprawling, and wilting blooms. “Hampstead Heath is a wild park of woodland and meadows, tucked inside north London’s Zone Two - less than four miles from the centre, though you’d never know it. It sprawls over 800 acres and boasts some of the most spectacular views in the city. This is the park that inspired C.S. Lewis to write The Chronicles of Narnia, that Constable spent his final years painting, and Londoners of all stripes have been coming here to escape the city for over 200 years.” Quote From https://www.hampsteadheath.net/

  • Cottage Garden

“Cottage Garden” is an exciting and exuberant new collection from Snow Leopard Designs. It is inspired by memories of my childhood riverside garden near Hampton Court Palace in Surrey. My mother had developed wonderful, densely-planted borders of herbaceous perennial flowers. They came up each year and flowered with great profusion through the hot summer months, while butterflies and ladybirds flew across the river from the grassy meadow on the other bank and mingled with the rich blooms. There was even a grapevine growing in my father’s little moss-covered greenhouse where all the scents of summer mingled. Later in life, I was able to create my own dense, herbaceous border while I was living in a farm cottage halfway up a hill in rural Hampshire. I followed my mother’s formula and surrounded the little cottage with tightly-packed borders of roses, delphiniums, foxgloves, hollyhocks, and geraniums, as well as trailing sweet pea and other flowers. It is these now-distant memories that I have sought to recreate in my “Cottage Garden” collection. I hope that when you work with these fabrics in your projects you, too, will be taken back to my magical gardens and feel the scents, fragrances, and calming influence of all those multiple blooms.

  • Mythical

The “Mythical” collection is a fantastical glimpse into a fierce group of goddesses from ancient Greek folklore. They ruled over much of the ancient world and had the ability to transform into animal form. “Fabled Forest” is their domain, and it exists somewhere on the horizon where the moon and the meadows collide in a stylized realm, mystical animals roam and the trees are made of stars. In the pattern “Powerhouse,” shimmering sunbursts and moon rays explode with zigzags and shockwaves to demonstrate the fierce power and protection of Athena and Artemis. If you look carefully along the riverbanks, the goddess “Iris” can be found among the exotic flowers that bear her name. Animals are scattered within the collection. Among the clouds and stars, in a peach-colored sky, a “Nightingale” sings and deer scatter across a “Wild Meadow” of fluttering grass. In “Owl See You,” an owl quietly sees all and blends beautifully with the other patterns. Multi-colored squares and half-moons evoke a multi-dimensional universe in “Dawn.” Punched-out moon phases feel like confetti in “It’s A Phase.” Linear lines lend movement in “Fiddlehead,” and blooms and bullseyes give off good vibes in “Bloom.”

  • Paper Trees

When creating designs for this collection, I did not begin with the trees. I sat and cut my hand-printed papers into shapes, and I ended up with circles, triangles, little rectangles, flowers, and leaves. The leaves became the main tree pattern and the tossed trees. The other shapes became some of the coordinating patterns. Dots and a small daisy were added to round out this collection. I got carried away so I did more patterns than needed...I just couldn't stop creating! I would try to choose my favorite fabrics from this collection, but wouldn’t want to make the other patterns jealous. What is your favorite?

  • Parterre

Parterre is inspired by a beautifully structured garden – with paths, hedges, tumbling blooms, organized plantings, and flowerbeds laid out in colour and seasonal sequence. It is a treasured resource giving year-round flowers to gather into bunches to present to friends and family or to bring fragrant beauty into your home. Even a tiny London plot can yield daily treasures. My new collection reflects the nature of such a garden with flowers a-plenty; sequences of floral beauty sit alongside hand-drawn stripes and dancing geometrics reflecting the colours and rhythms of the year. I’ve drawn inspiration from gardens I know and love, my current leafy surroundings, and motifs from my own textile design history. As in the garden, ‘Parterre’ moves from wintery Cheerfulness, sparkling on a sky-blue ground, to the early spring of Blossom, in both Midnight and Scarlet colourways, and on into summer’s bounty. Lola and Flowerbed are both patterns of the prettiest little floweriness, one on a creamy ground, the other on a soft leafy green. Woodland Blooms nod wistfully in the blue shade. Bountiful, in rouge, shows a more sophisticated aspect, mysterious in its use of tonality and textures. And Poppy Field is just that – all those little dancing globes dotted in a grassy bank. In this particular gardening story, all are accompanied by the geometry of Bestfriend – a sequence of diamonds of course – and the merry stripes of Carousel, bringing us around the year. The more formal aspect of a parterre garden, the layout of the beds and paths perhaps, is reflected in Brilliant, while Rosa makes an everlasting journey of pinks and reds, with shadow and light playing at every turn. Happily, four of these patterns, Poppyfield, Lola, Bestfriend and Bountiful, will also be offered on a cotton lawn – such a lovely cloth to sew and wear. That dreamy summer dress can see you through sunny days, with a pieced and quilted jacket for cooler evenings. Enjoy this garden of delights!

  • ROAR!

When I was a child, I believed that every hill I saw was simply where a dinosaur lay down and died, and then grass grew over it. I have no idea where this information came from, but to my 6-year-old mind, this was a flawless piece of logic. I used to look out the window and try to guess which kind of dinosaur each hill was hiding while checking my children's encyclopedia of pre-historic animals. I was pretty good at it, considering this was my own theory, I was correct 100% of the time. As an adult, the dinosaur wing is still my first stop at the Natural History Museum. Dinosaurs are amazing and huge and mysterious. They lived tens of millions of years ago and the fascination with these giant creatures still exists today. Is it their size? Definitely. Is it about how differently they moved and lived? For sure. Is it how little we still know about them and the world they existed in? Absolutely. Everything that I do as a fabric designer is about indulging my childhood fantasies. I try to hold on to all of the things that we so easily let go of as we grow up, like wonder, amazement, creative logic, and delight. Typically, dinosaur fabrics are for children; I don't know who made that decision, but I wildly disagree. Roar! is a whimsical take on fancy dinosaurs for those of us who keep one foot firmly planted in fantasy. My pre-historic landscape is drenched in details and color. Here you will find a sophisticated T-Rex in a topiary, A Triceratops out for a stroll on a windy parkway path, happy little hidden Raptors in a dainty damask, and Pterodactyls taking time to smell the flowers. It's just your average lazy afternoon in the garden with the giants of Earth's history.
